Implementation Plan for the "Application-Assessment" System for Doctoral Student Admissions 2026 School of Management

II. Application Eligibility

  1. Uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China, be willing to serve the socialist modernization drive, have good moral character, and abide by national laws and university regulations.

  2. Hold one of the following academic degrees:

    (1) Applicants who have obtained a full-time master's degree and the corresponding master's degree certificate.

    (2) Final-year full-time master's graduates (must obtain the master's degree certificate before enrollment at the latest). Applicants with an overseas master's degree must obtain the Certificate of Academic Degree Recognition of Overseas Education issued by the Service Center for Chinese Scholarly Exchange (SCSCE) of the Ministry of Education before enrollment.

  3. Meet the physical and mental health requirements stipulated by Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU).

  4. Possess proficient foreign language proficiency. The awarding institutions of the applicant's bachelor's and master's degrees shall, in principle, be high-level universities at home and abroad.

  5. Have a solid professional foundation, strong research capabilities, a keen interest in academic research, as well as prominent awareness of innovation, innovative ability and professional competence.

  6. Applicants must contact the intended supervisor before registration to understand the supervisor's research directions and enrollment quota, and seek the supervisor's opinions on the application.

  7. Fulfill all admission eligibility criteria specified in the NWPU 2026 Doctoral Student Admission Brochure (Academic Type) for the "Application-Assessment" admission system.

III. Registration Process

(1) Online Registration

Applicants must carefully read the NWPU "Application-Assessment" System Operation Manual for Applicants (see Annex) before online registration.

  2. Online Registration Period: November 21 – November 28, 12:00 (noon)

  3. Admission Round: The first round of 2026 doctoral admission via the "Application-Assessment" system

Important Notes:
① Applicants must ensure the accuracy of all submitted registration information and pay the registration fee before the closure of the online registration system. The system will close automatically upon the deadline, and no modification to the registration information will be allowed thereafter. Registrations with unpaid fees during the period will be deemed invalid, and the registration fee is non-refundable once paid.
② Applicants may log in to the doctoral online registration system after 9:00 on December 3 to check the result of eligibility review. Applicants whose review is not passed must resubmit the revised application materials before 12:00 (noon) on December 4 in accordance with the reasons for rejection. Failure to resubmit materials by the deadline or a second rejection will result in an invalid registration.

(2) Submission of Online Registration Materials

Applicants are required to upload the following materials to the online registration system (original hard copies shall be mailed as required in Section III (3) ②):
  1. NWPU Application Form for Doctoral Degree Candidates, with the official seal of the human resources department of the applicant's file-hosting unit.

  2. Two letters of recommendation from professors in the applicant's intended discipline/major field; one of the recommenders shall be the applicant's master's supervisor (associate professors or professionals with equivalent technical titles are also acceptable).

  3. Academic degree and diploma certification materials:

    (1) For applicants with a master's degree already obtained:

    ① Academic education: Bachelor's and master's degree certificates, bachelor's and master's diploma certificates, Online Verification Report of Academic Degree Certificate of the bachelor's and master's degrees (issued by the Ministry of Education);

    ② Non-academic education: Bachelor's and master's degree certificates, bachelor's diploma certificate, Online Verification Report of Academic Degree Certificate of the bachelor's degree (issued by the Ministry of Education), Online Verification Report of Academic Degree or Academic Degree Certification Report of the master's degree (for Chinese higher education);

    ③ Applicants with overseas degrees: Bachelor's and master's graduation certificates, Certificate of Academic Degree Recognition of Overseas Education (with QR code) issued by the SCSCE of the Ministry of Education.

    (2) For final-year master's graduates: Bachelor's degree and diploma certificates, Online Verification Report of Academic Degree Certificate of the bachelor's degree (issued by the Ministry of Education), and Online Verification Report of Student Status of the master's degree (issued by the Ministry of Education). Final-year overseas graduates must submit a certificate proving their expected graduation before enrollment in the admission year.

Note: The Online Verification Report of Academic Degree Certificate and Online Verification Report of Student Status shall be applied for with the longest valid period on the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC) website. Applicants who graduated before 2002 must submit the China Higher Education Academic Degree Certification Report.
  1. Transcripts of undergraduate and master's academic programs (for final-year graduates only), with the official seal of the academic affairs department or the transcript management office of the applicant's college/university.

  2. Valid personal ID card (both front and back sides); final-year master's graduates shall also provide their student ID card.

  3. Chinese and English abstracts of the master's thesis (final-year graduates shall submit a brief introduction and research progress of the master's thesis).

  4. Published/accepted academic papers, award certificates at or above the university level, and other supporting materials that demonstrate the applicant's research capabilities and academic level.

(3) Eligibility Review

  1. Preliminary Review by the University
    After submitting online registration information and paying the registration fee, applicants will undergo eligibility review by the NWPU Graduate Admissions Office. Applicants with an unsuccessful preliminary review must resubmit revised materials in accordance with the reasons for rejection; failure to resubmit or a second rejection will result in an invalid registration.
  2. Mailing of Hard-Copy Registration Materials
    Applicants who pass the preliminary review must mail hard copies of all uploaded application materials (the Application Form, letters of recommendation and transcripts must be original copies) to the intended admission college on or before December 5 (postmark date as the criterion). All materials will be retained by the admission college for future reference.

  1. Review by the Admission College

    The School of Management will conduct a comprehensive review of the application materials of applicants who pass the university's preliminary eligibility review. Candidates for the comprehensive assessment will be selected in order of merit based on a predetermined targeted enrollment ratio (with more candidates assessed than the enrollment quota).

IV. Comprehensive Assessment

The comprehensive assessment consists of three parts with a total score of 100 points, and the final assessment score is the weighted sum of the three parts as specified below.

(1) Professional Foreign Language Proficiency Test (Written Exam)

  • Assessment Content: Comprehensive evaluation of the applicant's ability to read and comprehend professional foreign language literatures.

  • Full Score: 100 points, accounting for 20% of the total admission score.

(2) Ideological, Political and Psychological Quality Assessment (Interview)

  • Assessment Content: Comprehensive evaluation of the applicant's ideological and political quality and moral character, including political attitude, ideological performance, moral integrity and mental health. Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's scientific spirit, academic ethics, professional ethics and honesty.

  • Full Score: 100 points, accounting for 10% of the total admission score.

(3) Professional Comprehensive Ability Assessment (Interview)

  • Assessment Content: Focus on evaluating the applicant's English listening and oral communication skills, professional course foundation, academic research ability and comprehensive quality.

  • Research Proposal Requirement: Applicants shall select a specific research topic (not required to be the research topic for the doctoral program) in line with the intended supervisor's research directions and write a research proposal. The proposal shall include research objectives, research background, research content, research methodology, innovative points, and a list of necessary references. The proposal will be evaluated by the interview panel during the interview.

  • Interview Duration: 25 minutes per applicant, including a 15-minute PPT presentation by the applicant and a 10-minute Q&A session with the interview panel.

    PPT Content Requirements:

    ① Personal profile and previous research achievements (combining master's research content or other self-selected research projects);

    ② Presentation of the research proposal (as required above).

  • Full Score: 100 points, accounting for 70% of the total admission score.

Final Comprehensive Assessment Score Formula:
Final Score = Professional Foreign Language Score × 20% + Ideological & Political & Psychological Quality Score × 10% + Professional Comprehensive Ability Score × 70%

V. Admission

In accordance with the implementation plan of the "Application-Assessment" admission system, the School of Management will determine the proposed admission list in order of the final comprehensive assessment scores by first-level discipline, and submit the list to the NWPU Graduate Admissions Office. No applicant will be admitted without public announcement of the proposed admission list.

VI. Information Disclosure

In accordance with the national requirements for information disclosure of examinations and admissions, the School of Management will actively promote the disclosure of doctoral admission information, adhering to the principle of "the discloser is responsible for verification and explanation".
  1. The proposed admission list must be reviewed and approved by the Admission Work Leading Group of the School of Management, and publicly announced on the official website of the school with no objections raised, before being submitted to the NWPU Graduate Admissions Office.

  2. The proposed admission list (including assessment scores), all applicant registration materials and assessment records shall be signed and sealed by the leader of the School's Admission Working Group, and submitted to the NWPU Graduate Admissions Office for filing.
