Recently, Production and Operations Management has published online the research work co-authored by Associate Professor Wang Peng from the School of Management, Northwestern Polytechnical University and his collaborators, entitled "A ridesharing platform with an oversupply of drivers: Different assigning rates or commission rates for drivers?". Wang Peng is the first author of the paper. As the journal of the Production and Operations Management Society, Production and Operations Management is a top journal in production and operations management and one of the 24 leading academic journals for business schools selected by the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD-24).

This study focuses on the ridesharing scenario. It innovatively proposes a scheme that designs order assignment priority to incentivize drivers to improve service quality, and compares it with the traditional incentive scheme based on differentiated compensation. The research reveals the conditions under which mobility platforms should adopt this scheme, as well as its impacts on drivers’ expected earnings and social welfare. The findings carry practical application value for mechanism innovation of ridesharing platforms and offer important managerial implications for the development of the sharing economy. This paper was awarded the Best Paper Award at the 2023 Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Information Economics.
