On the morning of April 26, 2024, at the invitation of the School of Management, Professor Guo Xiaolong from the Department of Management Science, School of Management, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) visited Lecture Hall 214 of the College Building on Chang'an Campus and delivered an academic report entitled Analysis of Academic Writing in Management Science. The report was hosted by Associate Professor Mu Zihao and attended by teachers and students of the School of Management.
In the report, Professor Guo Xiaolong vividly elaborated on the value and challenges of management research for the students, and starting from the structure of academic papers, explained the ideas and key points of academic writing in a profound yet accessible manner. Firstly, he discussed the three core elements of academic writing: correct motivation, reasonable methodology, and clear problem formulation. Secondly, he pointed out the problems to be avoided in the writing process, such as logical conflicts between hypotheses and unclear research objectives. In addition, he explained the basic structure of academic papers, including problem statement, model construction, result analysis, and discussion, and highlighted the key points for improving the quality of each part. Finally, he reviewed the structured layout of academic writing and the core elements of each section, and shared recommended books and courseware with the participating teachers and students.

This academic report provided a platform for teachers and students of the School of Management to share academic insights and exchange research experience. Through this report, the students gained an in-depth understanding of the ideas and skills of academic writing in management science. During the interactive Q&A session, Professor Guo Xiaolong had in-depth discussions and exchanges with the students on the report theme, and provided detailed answers to the questions raised by teachers and students regarding writing details.
Speaker ProfileGuo Xiaolong, PhD, is a Specially Appointed Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and a recipient of the Youth Program of the "National High-Level Talent Special Support Program". He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Information Management and Information Systems from the School of Business Administration, Northeastern University in 2008, and his Doctoral degree in Management Science and Engineering from the School of Management, USTC in 2014. His doctoral dissertation won the 2015 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (and was selected into the Springer Theses series of outstanding doctoral dissertations). His main research area is logistics and supply chain management. He has published more than 60 papers in top management journals such as
