Our School Successfully Hosted the 2022 Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility and High-Quality Development of Chinese Enterprises

The 2022 Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility and High-Quality Development of Chinese Enterprises successfully concluded on the afternoon of August 26. Hosted by Southern Metropolis Weekly and the School of Management of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and organized by the Research Center for High-Quality Development of Enterprises in the New Era and the Research Center for Corporate Social Responsibility of China, the forum received professional support from CDP Worldwide. With the theme of Low-Carbon Transition for High-Quality Development: Carbon Pathways and Carbon Disclosure of Chinese Enterprises, it aimed to explore how to achieve high-quality corporate development through low-carbon transition and figure out a path for sustainable corporate development. The forum was held online with live streaming on multiple platforms, attracting over 250,000 viewers.
At the opening of the forum, Hou Chengyi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Li Peipei, Deputy General Manager of Southern Metropolis Weekly, delivered speeches respectively on behalf of the organizers.

 

 

 

Fan Ying, Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Beihang University and Director of the Low-Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory of Beihang University, delivered a keynote speech entitled Energy Transition Toward Carbon Neutrality, which illustrated the broad market space for various types of clean energy under the vision of carbon neutrality. Ma Jingfeng, Professor of the Department of Geology at Northwest University and Executive Director of the National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) Technology, presented a report titled Carbon Capture and Storage: The Key to Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality in Shaanxi with Coal-based Energy as the Mainstay. He shared the effective application of carbon dioxide capture and storage technology in reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, as well as how big data analysis can support carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, delivering a presentation rich in academic insights and practical content. Wu Jian, Deputy Director of the Technology and Digitalization Department of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company, shared the report Innovatively Fulfilling Environmental Missions and Demonstrating the Responsibility of Central Enterprises, elaborating on how central enterprises fulfill their social responsibilities to facilitate green development in detail.

 

 

 

 

Subsequently, the Research Center for High-Quality Development of Enterprises in the New Era (IHCD) of Northwestern Polytechnical University, as one of the organizers and relying on the Major Project of the National Social Science Foundation of China, released two research achievements focusing on corporate low-carbon value creation against the policy backdrop of the “30·60” dual carbon goals.
Jia Ming, Professor and Vice Dean of the School of Management of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Director of the Research Center for High-Quality Development of Enterprises in the New Era, released the Corporate Carbon Neutrality Development Report. The report presented the first-phase corporate carbon neutrality development evaluation index system and evaluation results (2020–2021), aiming to explore the progress of corporate carbon neutrality development in China and put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for promoting standardized corporate carbon neutrality management. This marks the first report in China focusing on the research of corporate carbon neutrality management and development paths.
Yang Qian, Associate Professor of the School of Management of Northwestern Polytechnical University and Deputy Director of the Research Center for High-Quality Development of Enterprises in the New Era, released the Report on the Quality of Corporate Carbon Neutrality Information Disclosure. This is the first evaluation in China of the carbon information disclosure quality of listed companies included in the CSI 300 Index from the perspective of stakeholders.
These two reports were the key releases of the forum. The full contents will be published in subsequent official updates, and your continued attention is highly appreciated.

 

 

 

In the afternoon, Professor Shao Shuai, Professor at the Business School of East China University of Science and Technology and Executive Director of the Research Center for Energy Economics and Environmental Management, delivered an internationally perspective observation titled The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism: Potential Impacts and Response Strategies. It provided a brand-new perspective for discussions on the realization of the "dual carbon" goals, and offered a high-quality reference starting from the field of overcapacity governance.
Mr. Wang Hongtao, Director of the Committee for Lifecycle Green Management of the China Electronic Energy Conservation Technology Association, gave a presentation on Research on the Corporate Carbon Neutrality Evaluation Index System (General Principles). Meanwhile, this is also one of the achievements of the "Corporate Lifecycle Carbon Neutrality Survey and Evaluation" project jointly initiated by the China Corporate Social Responsibility Research Center of Southern Metropolis Weekly and the Committee for Lifecycle Green Management of the China Electronic Energy Conservation Technology Association.
Li Fei, Deputy Director of CDP China, presented The Current Situation and Prospects of Environmental Information Disclosure of Chinese Enterprises, demonstrating the achievements of domestic enterprises in environmental information disclosure amid the surging tide of carbon neutrality.

 

 

 

 

Southern Metropolis Weekly, also acting as one of the organizers, released the report Corporate Cases of Carbon Reduction in China on site. Based on the research data from the CSR Research Center of Southern Metropolis Weekly, this report aims to provide enterprises with valuable practical experience through professional insights, so as to help them solve practical problems. Subsequently, Schneider Electric, one of the outstanding cases featured in Corporate Cases of Carbon Reduction in China, was invited to share its experience on site. Xi Wenjun, a senior eco-design engineer of the company, presented the enterprise’s achievements and experience in carbon reduction.

 

 

Finally, the forum invited Zhao Peng (Director of the Planning and Development Department, Director of the Dual Carbon Business Department, and Secretary of the Party Branch of Beijing Shaanxi Coal New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Coal Industry New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.), Jiang Shaojing (Director of the Recovery Efficiency Institute, Research Institute of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd., Professor-level Senior Engineer, and Doctoral Supervisor), Wang Weina (ESG and Sustainable Development Director of Tianqi Lithium Corporation), and Wang Zifu (Social Responsibility Manager of LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.) to participate in the roundtable discussion, where they jointly explored how low-carbon transition can facilitate the high-quality development of corporate social responsibility.
