On April 10, Professor Jiang Zhibin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered an academic report entitled "How Generative Artificial Intelligence Empowers the Solution of Complex Management Problems" to faculty and students in Lecture Hall 214, School of Management, Chang'an Campus of Northwestern Polytechnical University. The report was hosted by Professor Che Ada, Dean of the School of Management.

Centering on core issues including characteristics and challenges of management complexity, response mechanisms of generative artificial intelligence, application effects in real scenarios, and future evolution directions of management science, Professor Jiang Zhibin started with the analysis of causes and characteristics, revealed the application mechanism of generative artificial intelligence by dissecting five empowerment paths, and illustrated it combined with typical industrial practices. Finally, he prospected and analyzed five new evolutionary trends of the management discipline. Problem-oriented, mechanism-centered and future-oriented, Professor Jiang offered faculty and students a systematic framework to tackle complex management problems amid the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence.

After the presentation, Professor Jiang Zhibin had in-depth discussions and exchanges with faculty and students present on the lecture theme as well as the development and application of artificial intelligence. The academic atmosphere was enthusiastic, bringing profound theoretical and practical reflections to all participants.

About the speaker:Jiang Zhibin holds a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management from City University of Hong Kong. He is a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and a recipient of the Major Talent Program of the Ministry of Education. He is Fellow and former Vice President of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). He currently serves as Dean of the Institute of Intelligent Management and the Sino-US Global Logistics Institute, Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Operations Management at Antai College of Economics and Management. He previously held the positions of Director of the Office of Academic Affairs (2007-2014) and Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (2001-2018) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He concurrently serves as Chair of the Industrial Engineering Branch of Chinese Institute of Electronics, Supervisor of the Industrial Engineering Branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Chair of the Industrial Engineering Professional Committee of Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Society, and Executive Director of China Innovation Methods Research Association. His main research fields cover operations management of complex production and service systems, service-oriented manufacturing management, healthcare service and hospital optimization management. He has presided over 1 major project of the National Social Science Fund of China, 3 key NSFC projects, 8 NSFC General Projects and more than 20 other national-level research projects. He has published 6 monographs and over 350 papers, including more than 150 papers in top and important international journals such as MS, OR, POMS, JOC and IISE T. He has won 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of provincial and ministerial awards for science and technology and humanities and social sciences. He has developed 5 national high-quality / first-class courses, leads a national-level teaching team, and received 2 second prizes of national teaching achievement awards and the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Special Prize. He was listed on Elsevier's China Highly Cited Researchers list in "Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering" for five consecutive years from 2014 to 2018. He won the IISE International Impact Award in 2025.
