The International Project Management Institute of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU-IPMI) was founded in 2003. It is a secondary institution affiliated with Northwestern Polytechnical University, dedicated to discipline development, scientific research, and consulting services in project management. It is also an integral part of the Research and Development Center for Western National Defense Science, Technology and Industry, which is a "985 Project" philosophy and social science base under the Ministry of Education of China.

The main research directions of NPU-IPMI include: national defense project management, megaproject management, enterprise project management (EPM), and project management informatization (including project management information systems, PMIS, and IT project management).
