On August 20, 2026, at the invitation of the School of Management, Professor Feng Chu from Université Paris-Saclay delivered a keynote lecture titled "Integrated approach for supply chain resilience improvement" at the Lecture Hall 214 of the School of Management, Northwestern Polytechnical University. This lecture was the 11th session of the 2026 Overseas Lecture Series of the School of Management, hosted by Professor Che Ada (Dean of the School), with master's and doctoral students as well as faculty members from the School of Management in attendance.

Professor Feng Chu's lecture revolved around "how to enhance supply chain resilience through risk assessment and risk mitigation," and she shared three novel supply chain risk management problems under disruption conditions: (1) Most studies focus on general disruption events, neglecting the characteristics of specific disruption events (such as power shortages); (2) Risk assessment and resilience strategies are usually studied separately, and few studies conduct quantitative evaluations on the impact of government interventions based on risk assessment; (3) No existing research explores dynamic risk assessment and new technologies such as additive manufacturing in an integrated manner. Professor Feng Chu designed corresponding optimization frameworks of "problem analysis—model construction—model solving—case validation" for the supply chain risk assessment and resilience enhancement problems under each of the above three contexts. The research results demonstrate the importance of dynamic risk assessment and optimal reactive proactive maintenance strategies.

During the interactive Q&A session, participating faculty and students engaged in discussions on topics such as quantifying structural risks using causal Bayesian networks and measuring the benefits of interventions using Do-calculus techniques. Drawing on the lecture content and her own research experience, Professor Feng Chu explained the application details of Bayesian network and Do-calculus technologies, and shared the application challenges she encountered in her research process as well as her solutions.

Professor Feng Chu is a French National Exceptional Class Professor (Professeur de classe exceptionnelle), Director of the IBISC Laboratory at Université Paris-Saclay and Université d'Évry, and Head of the QLIO Department. She is a recipient of the French Ministry of Education's PES Award (Science Excellence Award) and PEDR Award (Excellent Doctoral Supervision Award). She currently serves as an Associate Editor for International Journal of Production Research and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems. Her main research areas include operations research, multi-objective optimization, and stochastic optimization. Her application domains cover: intelligent transportation system management; design, optimization, and risk management of sustainable logistics and supply chains; and production system planning and scheduling optimization in the context of circular economy. In particular, she pioneered internationally and led her research team in studying dedicated lane design and optimization for intelligent transportation systems, design, operation, and optimization of sustainable food supply chains, and simulation and optimization of production scheduling systems under time-of-use tariffs. Focusing on the above research areas, she has published over 200 papers in high-level international journals.
