To thoroughly implement the strategic deployment of the 14th Party Congress of the university on vigorously promoting the independent training of top‑notch innovative talents of the "Chief Engineer Type", consolidate the foundation of undergraduate education and management, improve the professional competence of new class advisors, and gather the joint education force of counselors and class advisors, the School of Management held the 2024 Autumn Semester Student Work Symposium and Training Session for New Class Advisors on the morning of October 15.

Present at the meeting were Zhang Shuang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Bai Jie, Grade‑Six Staff member, Zhou Chenhao, Outstanding Class Advisor of Northwestern Polytechnical University for the 2023–2024 academic year, as well as class advisors and counselors for the 2023 and 2024 undergraduate cohorts. The meeting was chaired by Wang Haixiao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.

Wang Haixiao led all class advisors in carefully studying the Administrative Measures for Undergraduate Class Advisors of the School of Management, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and gave a detailed explanation on the core contents including the job responsibilities, assessment criteria and incentive policies for class advisors. Meanwhile, based on data of the School’s undergraduate students in the past two years such as further education rate, postgraduate recommendation rate, employment rate and major transfer rate, he introduced the current situation and deficiencies of student work in the School and put forward work requirements for the class advisors.

Drawing on four years of practical experience as a class advisor, Zhou Chenhao shared his experience from the aspects of being a good mentor and friend to students, guiding students to think and judge independently, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and providing education for all without discrimination, and also put forward suggestions for student work of the School. Counselors Li Hengyu and Zhang Yu respectively briefed on the recent progress of student work for the 2023 and 2024 cohorts and the key tasks of the two cohorts in this semester, so as to strengthen coordination with class advisors.

The participants conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on "How to Strengthen Class Construction". Class advisors of the 2023 cohort put forward thoughts and suggestions based on practical work, while new class advisors of the 2024 cohort raised questions and sought advice on specific policies, creating a lively atmosphere.

Zhang Shuang delivered a concluding speech. She emphasized that class advisors should act as life mentors for students, actively influence and inspire students through their own good examples and words and deeds, and guide students to establish a correct worldview, outlook on life and values. Class advisors should fully realize that student work is a complex systematic project. When facing students with diverse personalities and backgrounds, they should devote sufficient time and energy, attach importance to educational strategies and methods, deeply understand students’ inner world, and ensure targeted education measures.

As a bridge connecting students and the School, class advisors undertake the important responsibility of all-round education, management and service for students. The participating class advisors expressed that they would earnestly fulfill their duties and missions, continuously improve their professional capabilities, and help students grow and become talents.
