To help the 2024 graduate students gain a thorough understanding of the school, clarify their development directions, and lay a solid foundation for their postgraduate studies, the School of Management held the 2024 Graduate Opening Ceremony on the afternoon of September 3 at Chang’an Campus.
Present at the ceremony were Che Ada (Dean), Zhang Shuang (Secretary of the Party Committee), Jia Ming (Vice Dean), Wang Haixiao (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee), Bai Jie (Grade-Six Staff member), Zhang Yali (Director of the Department of Management Science and Engineering), Chang Yu (Director of the Department of Marketing), Hong Zhaofu (Director of the Department of Business Administration), Su Kun (Director of the Department of Accounting), graduate counselors, teaching secretaries, as well as 34 new doctoral students and 135 new full-time master’s students. The ceremony was hosted by Gong Mujia, graduate counselor for master’s students.

The opening ceremony officially began with the solemn national anthem.

On behalf of the school, Che Ada extended a warm welcome and sincere congratulations to all new 2024 graduate students. He gave a comprehensive introduction to the School of Management, covering its educational history, disciplinary development, scientific research, faculty team, and talent cultivation, with emphasis on its distinctive research directions. He put forward three requirements for the students:
to consolidate theoretical foundations, master scientific research methods, and improve research capabilities;
to break inertial thinking, cultivate the spirit of questioning and independent thinking, and develop innovative thinking;
to maintain a good supervisor-student relationship, strengthen communication with supervisors, and grow rapidly under their guidance.
He hoped that during their postgraduate studies, students would set clear goals, make sound plans, build solid foundations, and strive for higher and farther objectives.

Jia Ming detailed the overall situation of graduate education at the school, and carefully explained key procedures including course selection, thesis proposal, dissertation writing, international exchange, internship and practice. He noted that graduate students should properly handle the relationships with supervisors and peers, balance the present and the future, quickly adapt to the new environment, and complete the transformation of their roles.

Wang Haixiao systematically introduced student affairs of the school, elaborating on Party and League building, innovation and entrepreneurship, scholarship and aid system, employment and internship, with key explanations on issues of common concern. He stated that the school would fully provide abundant resources and strong support for graduate students to help them achieve all-round development.

Professor Chang Yu delivered a speech as a supervisor representative, with the theme “Postgraduate Study Is a Life Cultivation”. She suggested that students take postgraduate study as a new starting point, cherish learning opportunities and platforms, set ambitious goals and work hard to lay a sound foundation for their future life. She encouraged students to be good at observation and thinking, be ambitious while down-to-earth, strive to move forward, surpass their predecessors, and create their own brilliance.

Finally, Li Fuying, a new student majoring in Business Administration, spoke on behalf of all new students. She reviewed her growth and achievements during undergraduate studies, and expressed her joy and excitement to further her study at the School of Management. She shared her expectations for postgraduate life from three aspects: firm goals, persistent ideals, and sticking to the bottom line, and wished all students could explore their potential, work hard and realize their dreams.

The opening ceremony helped the 2024 graduate students further understand the profound heritage of the school and the graduate training process, laying a good foundation for their future development. Guided by the “Chief Engineer Culture for Talent Cultivation”, the School of Management will continue to support the academic and personal growth of new students, and make unremitting efforts to cultivate more “chief engineer-type” talents in the management field.
