Recently, the research work Redemption from SRHRM under COVID-19: How business threat due to COVID-19 affects employee insomnia via hope and workplace anxiety, a collaborative effort by Associate Professor Wang Juan from the School of Management, was officially published in the journal Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. As a world-leading academic journal in the field of organizational behavior, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology is classified as an ABS 4-star journal. This also marks the first time that a faculty member of the School has published a research output in an internationally renowned journal of this caliber in the field of organizational behavior and human resource management.

Abstract of the Research

Based on the cognitive appraisal theory of emotion, this paper adopts the experience sampling method to conduct an in-depth study on the mechanism and boundary conditions of how and when business threats affect employee insomnia. The results show that business threats can reduce employees’ perceived hope in daily work, trigger workplace anxiety, and then induce their insomnia tendency. Meanwhile, socially responsible human resource management (SRHRM) practices can weaken the negative impact of such business threats on employees’ hope and alleviate their triggering effect on employees’ workplace anxiety.
