[Academic Report] Academic Lecture by Associate Professor Wang Wei from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Associate Research Fellow Wang Xiaolin from Sichuan University Invited to the School of Management

Time:2024-06-11 Reads:

On June 7, 2024, at the invitation of the School of Management, Associate Professor Wang Wei from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Associate Research Fellow Wang Xiaolin from Sichuan University respectively delivered academic reports entitled UAV Path Planning for Geological Hazard Hidden Danger Inspection and Warranty Menu Design and Pricing Based on Discrete Choice Model in Lecture Hall 214. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Li Chenglong from the School of Management, with attendance of some young faculty members and graduate students.

Wang Wei focused his presentation on the model construction of UAV inspection path planning. In response to the two major challenges—how to improve the energy efficiency of UAVs during inspections in geological hazard-prone areas and how to design path plans incorporating environmental information—he elaborated on the methods proposed by his research team. He further suggested predicting the urgency of inspecting each hazard site based on factors such as its stability status and risk level, and dynamically adjusting UAV inspection routes accordingly.

Wang Xiaolin’s talk centered on extended warranty research, pointing out that the key to extended warranty menu design lies in selecting an appropriate model. He argued that the Multinomial Logit (MNL) model, which is widely applied in economic and financial fields, can address the design and pricing of extended warranty menus across multiple scenarios. This model enables the provision of customized extended warranty menus for different consumer groups in both one-dimensional and two-dimensional menu design, and can integrate price competition in the extended warranty market for reasonable pricing, thus offering new and applicable solutions for the extended warranty industry.
The presentations delivered by the two scholars were rich in content, with in-depth step-by-step analysis of the issues, benefiting all teachers and students present. The event concluded with a lively interactive Q&A session, where both speakers patiently answered the questions raised by the audience, creating a vibrant on-site atmosphere.
