Associate Professor, Master’s Supervisor. He has served as the homeroom teacher of Class 12040501, Class 12050901 and Class 12061702 successively. He was awarded the title of Outstanding Homeroom Teacher of Northwestern Polytechnical University in 2021.


Reflection on Fostering Morality and Cultivating Talents

Homeroom teacher’s work is crucial to the healthy growth of students. The work may not always be complicated, but it most requires dedication and sincere care to accomplish. In hindsight, the hard work is worthwhile and meaningful.


Being a Guide for Students on the Path of Growth

Associate Professor Jiang Jijiao has worked as a homeroom teacher for more than a decade, and he has developed a profound understanding of this role—it is a career that upholds ideals and is filled with warmth. He has always believed that while homeroom teachers may adopt different working methods, dedication and sincere care will surely earn students’ trust and make a good homeroom teacher. In practice, he adheres to the spirits of dedication to work and sense of responsibility, cares for and guards students with all his heart, and acts as a faithful guide for their academic and personal growth.

"Let’s go chat with Teacher Jiang"—this is the first reaction of many students in his classes when they encounter difficulties. Over more than ten years as a homeroom teacher, he has kept to a consistent routine: attending students’ classes, checking dormitories, holding class meetings and providing one-on-one counseling talks. He has gone to the review classrooms for postgraduate entrance exam countless times to check on students. When work requires him to go on business trips for consecutive days, the first thing he does upon returning to school is take the university shuttle bus to the new campus to see his students. Unlike the stereotypical university homeroom teacher who is rarely seen by students in four years, Teacher Jiang holds a fixed class meeting every two weeks without fail. As an alumnus who stayed on to teach at Northwestern Polytechnical University, he understands the common perplexities of students and always guides them out of difficulties with the perspective of someone who has "been there and done that".

Beyond daily life guidance, Teacher Jiang is also a guide for students on their academic and research journey. When freshmen first enroll, many feel confused: they have only a superficial understanding of professional knowledge, and the road to career development seems long and arduous. Leveraging his professional advantages as a faculty member, Teacher Jiang provides students with guidance on professional development based on their learning abilities and interests, combined with professional goals and training programs. He organizes students to participate in competitions and other activities in a well-planned way, fostering their interest in scientific research, as well as their research and innovative capabilities. In recent years, the classes he has taught have won more than 30 national and provincial-ministerial awards, and many students have been recommended for admission to Double First-Class universities for further study.

Facing university students who are in a critical period of moral and intellectual development, Teacher Jiang has always integrated value shaping into his daily work. He believes that although young people today have diverse choices, the fundamental principle remains unchanged: to strive for progress and uphold goodness. He guides students to integrate their personal growth with national development and encourages them to seize the precious opportunities endowed by the times. His students have gone on to various paths—some rooted themselves at the grassroots and dedicated themselves silently, some pursued further study at top universities—and all are blooming their youth in different places.
