Reflection on Fostering Morality and Cultivating Talents
Fostering morality and cultivating talents is not only the fundamental task of university teachers, but also a long-term undertaking that bears on knowledge inheritance, value shaping and social development. We should start from every lecture, every student and every research project to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering morality and cultivating talents, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, and truly care for students, promote mutual improvement between teaching and learning, pursue scholarly research with rigor, and dare to explore new ground.
Stand Firm in the Classroom, Pursue Solid Research, and Serve the Society
"A teacher with profound knowledge is qualified to teach, and one with noble morality is a model for others." This has always been the pursuit of Associate Professor Yang Qian, and she lives up to it with consistent actions. The classroom is the primary front for teachers' teaching, and since the first day of her teaching career, she has taken the improvement of teaching competence as an important goal. In course selection, she adheres to the principles of high quality, concise content, and alignment between teaching content and research directions.
She teaches the undergraduate course Service Operations Management, which is derived from her research projects and closely integrates her research findings and enterprise interviews. In 2021, she participated in the University-level Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition with this course and won the first prize. For the postgraduate course Research Methods in Management – Questionnaire Survey Method, she shares a wealth of first-hand insights and lessons learned from her own research practice, which has been widely recognized by students. She ranked first in student voting in the 2020 teaching evaluation of postgraduate courses in the School.

Scientific research is the wellspring that drives the professional development of university teachers. Through years of research, Professor Yang has achieved fruitful results: she has presided over 2 national-level projects, 1 Young Project of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Fund of the Ministry of Education, and 4 provincial-level projects, and has participated in a number of major and key national-level research projects. Her deepest insight, however, is this: while academic outputs bring joy and encouragement, the normal state of research is more about tedious day-to-day accumulation, a constant process of challenging oneself and facing doubts, filled with various setbacks. As university teachers, we should actively explore research directions that interest us, dare to innovate and try, and maintain a calm mind to accept any possible failures and setbacks. It is precisely these processes that forge our solid research foundation, strong willpower, and a positive and optimistic attitude towards life.
As Secretary of the Faculty Party Branch, she has been exploring working methods suitable for the branch. In addition to completing the required Party branch work with high quality, she actively leads the branch members to carry out a variety of Party activities. She closely cooperates with the deans of the two departments, and in light of the Party's various theories, principles and policies, strives to strengthen discipline development, improve teaching and research capabilities, practice the concept of promoting professional development through Party building, and drive the all-round progress of branch members. Meanwhile, she attaches great importance to cultivating her own research capabilities in Party building: she has presided over 1 university-level Party Building Research Fund project, participated in the recording of micro Party lectures for Party history learning and education, and was awarded the title of Excellent Secretary of the Party Branch of the School twice.
